My mom's former favorite station has now completely shot itself in the foot. KRKK used to be oldies as long as I can remember, until last week. Now the station is a conservative talk format, ranging from Sean Hannity to Rush Limbaugh. They also have Glenn (full of himself) Beck.
I wish them further into the toilet now. KRKK can't seem to get their act together.

I was going to report this....I was in Rock Springs yesterday. Surprised to find talk there. Sounds so odd after hearing oldies for so many years. I do have to hand it to them....at least it's SOMETHING. No I'm not a fan of talk radio. I would rather have seen them try to keep to music and be more local.....like KUGR does. KRKK is an historic station that was the ONLY station in the area for MANY years until the late 70s when KUGR came along. They could have kept the oldies or at maybe gone AC - be "Full Service" with programs and local news every hour.....stuff like that. That station was a joke because they never cared. They never did anything with it. Just put the oldies satellite on and set it and forget it. Half the time the local liners and IDs weren't even firing or the volume was turned down so low you almost couldn't hear it. New format, local inserts, local promos, local news once an hour......that shows effort...something we haven't seen put forth on KRKK in years. Still sad to see another music AM go away. Especially with the limited choices in the RS/GR market.

Hi, jumping in here a bit late but thought I'd put in an input from my perspective.
There is a strong conservative base in this region, (you only have to look how it votes in presidential elections) and presumably, someone decided that there was space in the market here for a right wing/fox news type talk radio.
With KYCS already providing the AC output with a basic but minimal news service in RS/GR, that format is already established so I'm not sure if there would be room for a similar station. I can relate to the criticisms of having satellite fed programming as that has happened here in Kemmerer, with regard to KAOX following its switch to the crappy SAM format. At least KMER hasn't undergone a drastic change - yet.
In an ideal world, I would love to see a station launch, covering all SW Wyoming with a full daytime schedule from 6am to 6pm featuring live and local DJ's who have a finger on the pulse of the area and I would like to see updated hourly local news bulletins throughout the day, as well as the usual national and international headlines too. Sadly I don't think it will ever happen and this post has turned into a bit of a rant but radio is stagnant here and sounds tired.
A fresh spark is needed to shake things up because this rural region needs the medium to survive and flourish.

Speaking of stagnant radio, nothing has happened in the past two months in Wyoming or Salt Lake worth posting about... except a new radio station from Superior (KZUW) signing on the air. Its so new, RL still doesn't show it but it's very much on air.

Having been away now for a couple of months, I did wonder if anything was happening in the WY/UT markets - obviously I've not missed much!
Are you back in GR full time now then Milo?

I'm still in Salt Lake. Last week KUGR 1490 was off the air, that's all I know about.
