To add to the already notorious history of the situation of radio in Rawlins, I recently drove through there (two days ago) and can now report that KIQZ is broadcasting a dead carrier. I did notice that the station broadcasting from Elk Mountain (102.1 KBDY - B102 "The Bandit") is on the air. KTGA 99.3 Saratoga also has a good signal that carries as far as Wamsutter. It was airing classic rock but mentioned that it aired country too. It was a fairly entertaining station to be honest.
So at least there is something for the people to listen to in Rawlins, it just isn't KIQZ or KRAL. As mentioned, KIQZ was running a dead carrier and as per normal, the signal died once I hit the Sweethingyer County line east. KRAL as we know has been silent for years.
An interesting note, on my way through Muddy Gap and right near Pathfinder Reservoir, I was able to hear two Wilkins Peak (SW WYO) stations KYCS and KFRZ just like they were locals. There was no sign of any other RS station, just those two. I suspect there must be a gap in the Ferris mountain range that makes those two line of sight. Then again, it may have been full blown tropo. I doubt it though. Wyoming lacks the moisture on the ground and air to cause that effect. TrS, yes, that is all we get in Wyo.
