Mount Rushmore Broadcasting has likely become the joke of radio companies in Wyoming, as it can't seem to get its nuts together. I don't blame those who shy away from working at their existing stations (so far, Casper and Rawlins) as I've heard working conditions are terrible.
Of note.... KRAL 1240 and KIQZ 92.7 are back on the air, for now. Both are operating at substantially less power than their licenses originally allotted. The AM is running 50 watts from a long wire and the FM is running 200 watts. Both antennas are either at or near the studios on the main drag into town. KRAL had a perfectly good stick near I-80, and KIQZ was up on the mountain south of town. My guess is KIQZ's STL wasn't licensed, just like in Casper, or some other BS reason. As for why KRAL can't operate from its previous tower, that remains to be seen. Maybe they lost the land the tower sits on? If I were WYDOT, I'd demolish the eye sore.
Anywho, we now wait for the next time the two stations fall silent. One wonders how this company is still even going. Yes, radio is hard, but when you don't put money into your product, you get Mount Rushmore Broadcasting. 9/10 of its stations (I don't know how many they have exactly, this is just a rough guess) are off the air. Only KASS, KVOC, and KQLT are on in Casper. I was surprised to see KVOC come back to life. I wonder how long though.
Again, KRAL and KIQZ have resumed operations, only to be shut off days later due to "technical or staffing" reasons many times in the past two or three years. So we wait. What's it going to be this time? Has the company pulled its head out of its ass? Another question, I wonder why nobody has come along and bought their stations outright, and taken care of them like someone desperately needs to. Maybe its a lost cause. Sorry, I'm ramblin' again.
